Baby milk frogs…or little pandas ?!

We have little panda-frogs for the first time! Amazon Milk frogs are native to parts of the Amazon River basin in South America. In the wild, if threatened by a predator, they ooze a milky white irritating secretion from their backs. In captivity, these frogs are quite chill, and do not do this. These frogs have a dynamic life cycle, changing from a dark charcoal-colored tadpole, to apoptosis (planned cell death / the process of absorbing their tail), to froglet, to adult (see below). As new froglets emerge from the water, they develop striking black and white patterns, and look just like little panda bears! After about 6-8 months, they take on their adult colorations. Adults have tan-grey markings and a bright blue tongue!
